Calendar Girls Challenge

It is the 28th of the month, so I am here to welcome you to another round with the Calendar Girls! We are now in our fourth year of posting and it has been a blast.  Wonderful Challenges--Great Fun--Sweet Creations--and Awesome Friendships!

Who are the Calendar Girls? We are a group of bloggers who want to have a place where friendships blossom, creativity abounds, and encouragement prevails! In keeping with that dream, this blog group has been created so we will have a place to interact and enjoy being fellow bloggers.  Terry is the hostess this month and she posted the following challenge:

I have recently (within 2 weeks time) had 3 friends lose parents. Very sad situations for all of them.

With that and the anniversary of 9-11 coming up I would like you all to create a Sympathy card.

Unfortunately, we will all need them at some point. It's a sad thought, but reality.

As an added challenge, I would like you all to share a memory of someone you lost and what that person did to change your life.

I inked up a couple older Gina K stamps that I have and they have never been used.  I really like the sentiment and know who I will send it to yet this year!

Here is the inside of my card:

I hope Terry and the other Calendar Girls like my card!

SOTC Owl Card

This is my card for our every other month swap for an awesome group of ladies on SCS--the SOTC--Sisters of the Traveling Cards!  I am quite late in posting this card and part of the problem was that I was very late in getting these swap cards in the mail to Kadie. She was our hostess for August and she posted the following:

I was thinking about a theme for my round and I couldn't get owls out of my head. But then it occurred to me that not everyone may have an owl stamp or image, so I've decided to go with a general bird theme. So the theme this month is called FOR THE BIRDS! All you have to do it use a bird somewhere on your card. It can be for any occassion. Please use at least 2 layers and 1 embellishment. Other than that, it's up to you! Thanks so much and have fun!!

I have not inked up this Unity stamp yet, so I thought this is a perfect time to do so for a fall card!  The sentiment says "Bringing Fall Greetings"

The Mystery Revealed ~ Kelly's Image

This card is for a Mystery Swap on SCS. A group of us are doing a bi-monthly swap where we all use the same mystery image, sent to us by the hostess. This swap was created by Forest Ranger—Jeanette and we are now ending our second cycle.   Kelly is the hostess this month and she picked a sweet image from My Favorite Things.   Kelly will swap the cards--then send us the next image,  which Jeanette is going to sent to her.  That means we will be starting round 3 in this swap!  I can't wait to get the swap cards back to see how everyone else used the same sentiment. Then everyone gets to do it all over again!

I thought this image was too cute and makes such a great card for a fantastic friend or partner or even a wonderful family member.  I went with bright, bold summer colors to highlight the boating season!  That is what the anchor is for, right?

Here is the inside of my card:

Dueling Darlings ~ What's Cooking?

If you are looking for my Melonheadz Challenge Card, please scroll down.

It is the 15thof the month and that means we get to show off another Dueling Darlings challenge. Debbie and I came up with the challenge and theme for the teams this month.  I am a Diva and Debbie is one of the Dazzlers.

The theme is Recipe Cards!

We thought it would be fun to create and post recipe cards this month so we can all get a few new recipes.  We challenge the ladies to use their favorite recipe or perhaps a comfort food recipe that we can all savor during the upcoming winter months. Debbie lives in Alaska--so we know she really has long winter months!
I sent a variety of images and sentiments for the Divas to chose from to use on their 4x6 recipe card.  I also sent some food themed patterned papers along with some interesting embellishments.  I am sure you will see some awesome recipes on some sweet cards this month when you make the blog rounds!
I picked my favorite baked bean recipe and I will reprint it here so it is easier to read.  I typically make a double recipe as I love it as leftovers too!
1 large can Baked Beans
1 small can Butter Beans--drained
1 small can Kidney Beans--drained
½ Cup Brown Sugar
½ Cup Catsup
1 Tablespoon Vinegar
½ Pound Bacon
1 Pound of Ground Beef
1 Large Onion--Chopped
1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
Brown the beef, onions and bacon together.  When I make a double recipe, I brown the onions and bacon in one pan—then the ground beef in a separate one.  Drain Fat.  Add all other ingredients.

Bake for 45 minutes at 350.  Or, put everything in a slow cooker and heat for several hours.

This can be made up the night before and refrigerated.

Carriers of Faith ~ Friendship

I am back with another Carriers of Faith challenge.  Jeanette is our hostess this month and she gave us this wonderful theme:

September Challenge – Friendship

Two are better than one, because hey have a good return for their work;
If one falls down, his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
Also, if tow lie down together, they will keep warm,
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. It reminds me that God did not create us for isolation. He wants us to connect with other believers.

There really are many applications found in these four verses, but for the purpose of this month’s challenge, I would like us to focus on Christian friendship and create a card (or scrapbook page, etc) that focuses on friendship.

I found this stamp in the drawer that has friendship stamps and I do not think it has ever seen ink. I think it is perfect for this challenge!  This is what true friends are all about.........................

Here is the inside of my card:
