Glory Bee

It is the 15thof the month and that means we get to show off another Dueling Darlings challenge.

For June, Terry and I are the Darlings who came up with the challenge and theme for the teams this month.  I am one of the Diva's and Terry is a Dazzler.  The challenge this month is--"Show Your Patriotism".

Since yesterday was Flag Day in the USA, we thought it would be great to show off the Red, White and Blue!  In doing research on Flag Day, Terry found all sorts of different information on how it came about being celebrated as a National Observance. Here is the description of how the flag was officially adopted:

June 14, 1777 — Continental Congress adopts the following: Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. Stars represent  Delaware (December 7, 1787),  Pennsylvania (December 12, 1787),  New Jersey (December 18, 1787),  Georgia (January 2, 1788),  Connecticut (January 9, 1788),  Massachusetts (February 6, 1788),  Maryland (April 28, 1788),  South Carolina (May 23, 1788),  New Hampshire (June 21, 1788), Virginia (June 25, 1788),  New York (July 26, 1788),  North Carolina (November 21, 1789), and Rhode Island (May 29, 1790)

As an added challenge, we asked everyone to please let us all know what they personally think of when they see the flag!

Here is the inside of my card:

When I see a flag, I think often of how lucky we are to live in the USA.  My parents both left Germany in the late 20's and came to America where they met in Chicago and married in 1932.  One of my cousins came to visit us 10 years ago after we stayed at their house in Germany in 2004.  They at our house over the 4th of July as we have a family picnic and they were able to meet other relatives.  We then took them to Wisconsin Dells for a few days and we went to Tommy Bartlett's Water Ski Show--a Dells fixture!  At the end of the show, the song "God Bless the USA" was played along while the pyramid of skiers each held up an American Flag. My cousin commented that you would not see anything like that in Germany, even now.  People do not often display a German flag and rarely do you hear people speak of patriotism. They also commented about how I decorated for the 4th and how many small flags I displayed in the flower pots and baskets on the deck. That also would not seen too often in Germany.  I thought that was quite an interesting observation.  A bit sad for them, but makes me think often of how lucky I am to be born and live here!

Also--this is the last Dueling Darling Post for a few months.  We are not going to be making any new cards until September 15th as we take a few months off for the rest of the summer, and take time to regroup and for some members to catch up on their cards.  We hope you miss us just a bit and tune back in when we return all ready to go on 9/15!
